In Kona we are special to have the world only Seahorse farm.

It is an amazing place. There is a 1 hour tour that takes you

through the Farm. You get to learn all about seahorses! What

they eat, how they grow, how they reproduce, and why they

are so important.

You learn on the tour that seahorses are fishes and that there

use to be many kinds of seahorses. Many that you can find

all around the world. Currently there has been a decline in

seahorses because of coral reefs disappearing and also people

who harvest seahorses for pets and also for Chinese medicine.

Through the farm you get to see, first how they seahorse farm

grows there food. Which for seahorses they eat tiny little shrimp.

They also grow small plankton for the baby seahorses.

Then you learn how seahorses grow and how they reproduce

in the seahorse nursery. You actually can see and look at

thousands of baby seahorses in a large drum tank. Then you

get to see there parents. During the tour you actually can see a

nd feed the seahorse parents.

After that you learn more about the seahorse growth and

reproduction. Did you know that seahorses are they only

true animal in the world where the male is pregnant? Male

seahorses can be pregnant with more than 200 tiny baby

seahorses!! So cool!

Then we learn of a new attraction at the seahorse

farm…sea dragons. These are very rare and hard to find.

They are quite large fish and they are much protected at the

farm. But you get a little peek at the tank. At the farm they

have 4 sea dragons, they are hoping to domesticate these

animals and hoping that they will reproduce at the farm.

At the end of the tour, the best part is you actually get a

personal experience with a seahorse. Where you get to

have a seahorse tail grab on to your finger!! They are very

friendly fish and the tour guide helps the seahorse grab hold

of your hand. All you have to be is very still and these fish

will hold on. It was amazing holding a seahorse. This picture

is my actual hands!!

Then lastly you get to see the seahorse farms, aquarium

of seahorse found all over the world. There is even the

Hawaiian seahorse that you can see in there aquarium.
