こんにちはアンドレイです。
Are you a vegetarian(ベジタリアンですか?)? Do you have a friend who always has to ask to have certain things taken off of meals do fit their vegan lifestyle while out for tea? I've got the area you've always dreamed of, you can walk in any direction and a cafe or restraunt will have all of the deliciousness that you can imagine! What area is that you ask? Why of course as the title suggests its Fitzroy.(フィッツロイ)
Former home of the Fitzroy Lions (now the team is the brisbane lions in the AFL) Fitzroy is one of the trendiest places in Melbourne. Only a 10 minute trip on the number 11 Tram from right outside the H.I.S Melbourne office on Collins street. The tram heads down Brunswick Street, a vibrant and lively street chockers full of awesome Cafés, restraunts and clothes srotes offering the latest trends in fashion. Brunswick st has a little something for everyone, but in this case we are going to focus on the amazing range of vegetarian options that you will have at your fingertips. Or you can catch the 86 tram down Smith street and you have just as many crazy good choices to make your head spin.
A quick search of Fitzroy, Victoria on Happycow.com (a vegetarian's best friend) gives 163 results within 1KM. Nowhere else in the Australia or maybe even the world can you find that many vegetarian option in such a small radius
Just look at all of the hits on the map, you can barely even see the word Fitzroy.
Some of the most popular restraunts in the area that you'd probably want to call ahead and table booking for are Transformer (modern cuisine), Madam k's (south east asian), Kook's kitchen, Vegie Bar (everything!), Lord Of The Fries (Vegan burgers and fires), Smith and Daughters' (New York style Latin-Italian deli), Wabi Sali Salon (Modern Japanese), Trippy Taco (Mexican), Radhey Kitchen and Chai Bar (Seasonal indian/latin cuisine) And many many many more.
A pic from a great night out at Transformer, in the pic is some roasted carrots, with gluten free granola, a silky carrot based sauce and Almond milk foam, with a side of beautifully textured rice and quinoa. In the background is my super pickey vegan mate who didn't have a single complaint, and a plate of miso glazed broccolini, which was grouse!(Aussie for great)
Even non vegetarians have a dirth of choices and certainly won't feel left out.
There are many great bars and dessert shops in the area too, where you can have a locally brewed, micro-brew beer or even a gluten and dairy free sorbet.
Basically any flavour you fancy, Fitzroy has it on offer.
Coffee and beer may be Melbourne's current calling cards in terms of its culinary profile. But the fast growing vegetarian culture is sweeping the city and it's none more prominant than in Fitzroy, the vegetarian capital of Australia (the world!?)
行って見てね!See ya!
