I am a die-hard fan of brunch. I am also a die-hard fan of BBQ. So you can imagine what happened when I was able to have both at the same time!

Wildwood BBQ on Park Avenue brought both of these favorites of mine together in an explosion of decadence and animal fat. It was pretty quiet in the restaurant when a friend and I walked in, which just meant quicker service for us! We started with a round of drinks. I started with the Kentucky Cooler (picture left below, a combination of bourbon and sweet tea vodka), and my friend had a Cold Fashioned (a play on an old fashioned using St. Germaine instead of bitters).

Ever the fans of bacon, we ordered their Double Cut Bacon Trio as a starter. It included 3 cuts of thick bacon, pictured below. From the left, there was bacon in their specialty mustard-based sauce, another that was pan-fried, and the furthest right was in their coffee-based VooDoo sauce.

The brunch menu itself had a range of options: from the more traditional Huevos Rancheros and Breakfast Burritos, to interesting BBQ twists on some brunch standbys. My friend and I went with the latter. Picture below is my friend's choice: the Woodie Waffle. It was a Belgian waffle topped with bourbon-soaked peaches, maple syrup, and pulled pork! He was quite pleased with it, especially the peaches. I guess there wasn't enough bourbon in his old fashioned.

And below is my choice: the Southside Benedict. A play on standard Eggs Benedict, the poached eggs were served on top of a buttermilk biscuit and pulled pork, and topped with a chipotle hollandaise sauce. It also came with roasted potatoes, and cheddar grits. There was definitely more cheese than gits.

The portion sizes are quite substantial, so much so that neither of us were able to finish our dishes. I was quite stuffed (but satisfied!) afterward. I'm actually getting kind of hungry remembering it...

Definitely an interesting slice of Americana for our international travelers! Wildwood is only a few blocks up from Union Square on 18th Street, and certainly worth a visit.
