Located on Wall Street, but tucked safely away several blocks down from the collision of bankers and the tourists who come to gawk at them is the Andaz Wall Street, a little-known secret in New York's Financial District. As Hyatt's luxury boutique brand, the Andaz is stylishly decorated with a money and wealth motif, but never loses a sense of hominess and warmth.
Our guide first took us to see an ANDAZ King, a category upgrade from the standard king-bedded room. The rooms are all very spacious with high ceilings.
All rooms also feature a deep, soaking tub, perfect for Japanese guests looking to relax in an ofuro-style tub.
The Andaz also offers guests a number of value-added features. In addition to free in-room WIFI, guests also have access to a free mini-bar with unlimited non-alcoholic beverages and snacks. Our guide estimated that guests receive about $20-worth of freebies every day from the minibar alone.
Even the room numbers are done-up stylishly.
We next saw an ANDAZ suite, which is laid-out much like the ANDAZ King, but with the added benefit of a sitting area.
We then toured around the rest of the hotel. The lobby,
There is also a kitchen-area set-off from the main lobby where complimentary pastries and coffee are served every morning. Guests are welcome to grab-and-go as they please. In the afternoon there are assorted complimentary snacks, and also other goodies for purchase.
Wall & Water is the hotel restaurant, featuring a private dining area and an omakase menu for VIPs.
Our final stop was to the hotel bar, Bar Seven Five (so named for the hotel's address, 75 Wall Street). We were seated outside, and it was nice to take in the last vestiges of summer, as this past weekend autumn announced its arrival.
I had the specialty cocktail, the 75 Smash. It was lightly sweet, but not overwhelmingly so, and a nice compliment to the early evening of a Friday afternoon.
The bar offers a number of other cocktails, including such staples as a gimlet and old fashioned.
There are also a number of appetizers on the menu. We ordered the veal meatballs,
Cheese platter with prosciutto and salami,
Pate,
And ceviche,
Everything was quite delicious, and made for the perfect end to the work week.
The Andaz is well worth checking out even if it is just for the food and drinks. For those travelers looking for an escape from the madness that is midtown Manhattan, and want a hotel that is a bit upscale, you cannot do much better than the Andaz Wall Street.
