It isn't often I find myself looking for food options around Times Square (like most New Yorkers, I avoid the place if I can), but after meeting some friends who had been ice skating at Rockefeller Center, we were all hungry and ready for dinner. We found ourselves wandering downtown and west with a vague idea we wanted some form of European food until we stumbled upon Maria's Mont Blanc Restaurant on 48th Street.I really liked the restaurant once we all stepped inside. It had a very warm, welcoming atsmophere: almost like you were coming home for a meal after a long time away. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful, and willing to handle a larger group without a reservation. It was also particularly cold in New York that evening, so it was great to step inside, warm up with a glass of wine, and catch-up with friends.
Some of my group ordered appetizers. Below was their caprese salad, always a solid choice.
Another friend got the French onion soup,
Tomato soup,
And the arugula salad,
I didn't order any appetizers, but all of my friends seemed pretty satisfied with what they were eating. Everything looked well portioned, and I was a little jealous I didn't get anything for myself.
And then dinner was served! First up is what I ordered, the Veal Dumpling a la Viennese. I was a little confused by the "dumpling" part as what came out was more like two very large veal dumplings. Not complaining - it was quite delicious, as I am also a fan of mushrooms - but a little bit misleading.
I didn't get pictures of everyone's meals, but I did what I could. Then there was also the Saute Shrimp & Scallops,
And the Grilled Fillet of Salmon,
And what is a good meal with friends without dessert! A bunch of us shared the Chocolate Fondue, which came with a variety of fruits and cakes for dipping in a decadent chocolate sauce. To. Die.
Since you can never have enough sweets, there was also tiramisu,
I walked out feeling full and satisfied. The food and drinks helped to complement a wonderful night out with friends. I was pleasantly surprised that it was so easy to find a cute little place just outside of the insanity that is Times Square and its plethora of chain restaurants. A definite recommend!
