A few steps into the entrance of Grand Central Terminal and your gaze will be lifted upwards.
This spectacular mass of turquoise brick can be identified as Grand Central Terminal's Main Concourse Ceiling; one of the most prominent features of New York City. This arched tile ceiling, composed of gold-leaf adorned zodiac illustrations and various other constellations, was designed by French pastelist Paul César Helleu and created by Brooklyn painter Charles Basing.
グランドセントラルターミナルをはいると、すぐてんじょうに目がいきます。
このターコイズのれんがが、グランドセントラルターミナルのメインコンコースの天井一面をおおっています。ニューヨークのなかで、とてもゆうめいです！金箔で飾られた12星座のイラストや、他のさまざまな星座で構成されるこのアーチ型のタイルの天井は、ブルックリンの画家Charles Basingによって作成されて、フランス人のパステル画家Paul César Helleuによって設計されました。
60 tiny lightbulbs light up the mural and add to its enchantment. During the 1998 restoration, these bulbs were replaced and then covered with diffusers that adjust the brightness of each light according to the actual brightness of the star it represents!
60個の小さなでんきゅうが、てんじようのほしのなかにはいっています。このでんきゅうは、てんじょうにまほうのきぶんをつけます！ 1998の復元時に、これらのでんきゅうをこうかんしました。あたらしいでんきのうえに、ひかりをあげたりさげたりできるコントローラーもはいりました。実ははひとつひとつのほしが、ほんもののほしのあかるさと同じです！
What may not be immediately evident is that the celestial figures on this mural are painted backwards. When Basing painted the mural, he held the guide diagram upside-down at his feet instead of above his head, as he was meant to. Cornelius Vanderbilt, whose family built and owned the Terminal, maintained that the mural was purposefully painted backwards to portray the view from the heavens instead of the view from Earth.

This free attraction is truly beautiful in that it reflects the vast array of locations one can access from just under the stars at Grand Central Station.
