Valentine's Day is over, but you can still have fun.

COLOR ME MINE LET'S YOU MAKE YOUR OWN CERAMIC GIFT

One of my favorite places to go is Old Town Brea.

There are two Edward Theatres, outdoor shopping, and boutique shops along Brea Blvd.

I felt like making art today, so I am heading toward this cute store called, "Color Me Mine!"

They are even open on the weekends and the morning is a good time to go.

The staff is very friendly and this place is for all ages.

I went on Sunday morning and there were already having a birthday event with kids choosing their ceramics.

WARNING: There is a huge selection of items: plates, figurines, cups, candle holders, tea pots, etc.
Choose wisely and it's ok to take your time.

Ok, so this is how it works.

1. Choose any ceramic piece on the self. Each piece is marked with a price in pencil underneath.

The cost is the ceramic piece plus paint time.

(My piece $19.00 +$10 flat rate paint time (includes glazing & firing of pieces))

----For Kids (10 & under): but the piece+ $7 flat rate paint time----

If you don't finish for some reason that day, you can always come back: $5 flat rate paint time.

*I choose a cool looking candle holder that has a shape like a heart.

2. Choose a table

About four people can sit on these round tables. There are also long tables that can seat about 10-15. That's were the birthday group gathered, so I stayed in the corner. :)

3. Choose your color palette.

I choose various blue and purple shades. They give you about 5 colors first.

4. Stencils!

You don't have to use them, but you can outline them onto your piece for decoration ideas, or simply paint them on.

Staff already places water bowl, several brushes with different thichkness, marker, pencil, and of course your color palette.

It's a little tricky with the words and corners of the stencils, but I got some ideas on designs from this basket full of stencils.*

5. Paint Time.

I decided to use this stencil on my ceramic. It's a cute flower pattern.

Using a sponge I outlined the flower in purple.

You have to paint the color 3 times for it to show after it has been baked.
Lighter colors first and then the darker colors.

If you paint the light color on top of hte drak color, the light color won't really show.

If you have any questions like I did, talk to one of the staff. They are super helpful and give you great pointersto newbies like me!



Tada~ Wala, and my masterpiece is done!

Usually if takes an average to about 1 hour or 2 for painting.

It usually depends on the piece and of course you.

I left the ceramic white, so that the flowers could stand out.

It takes about 3-5 days for it the piece to be glazed, fired, and ready for pick up.

It's kind of hard to tell, but this is the finished product.

The glaze makes the piece shine.

I had some light blue streaks for effect around the flowers, but light colors are really harder to see on a white background. The picture next to it is where you place the candle.

The baby blue color came out nicely, so maybe I'll use that as the overall color next time.

This was my first time painting here, and I'm still an ameteur, but I had so much fun.
