On August 21, 2017 a total solar eclipse occurred across the USA. Prior to this event, no solar eclipse had been visible across the entire contiguous United States since June 8, 1918; not since the February 1979 eclipse had a total eclipse been visible from anywhere in the mainland United States.
The eclipse crossed fourteen states including: crossing fourteen of the contiguous United States: Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
In the past, I had seen lunar eclipses and partial solar eclipses but this was my first total solar eclipse. The eclipse took place at 10:19am in my spot just north of Salem, Oregon. Leading up to the solar eclipse, it is necessary to wear special eye wear so as not to damage your eyes.
People told me that my shirt hurt their eyes and not the eclipse…
The diamond ring effect signals the time when you can take of the eye wear and see the eclipse with your own eyes.
Diamond Ring Effect!
Before total eclipse.
During the total solar eclipse.
The next solar eclipse in the USA will be on April 8, 2024. That eclipse will go from Southwest to Northeast.
It was an amazing experience I will never forget. Now I want to see another one. In 2019 and again in 2020 there will be total solar eclipses in Argentina. I WANT TO GO!
