Orvieto-the pleasure to experience and taste

Orvieto is a little in Province of Terni,Umbria,situated on the flat summit of a butte of volcanic tuff.Orvieto is famous throughout the world for its Cathedral,its palaces and museums,the Pozzo di San Patrizio ("St. Patrick's Well") and for the dinstinctive layout of the more than 3,000 years old town perched on its tufa crag.
But Orvieto is also well known for a “warm welcome and living well”not least through the food,wines and olive oil.

Wine is certainly the most famous product of Orvieto but there are other delightful surprises on the table,like the prized white truffle.
The “basket” of the best local products is rich and varied:there are garden greens,legumes,game,prized meats,salami,cheeses and the norcinerie,lake and sea fish.
Thus have the restaurants,inns,wine bars in the historic centre become places of gastronomic delight.
Orvieto is indivisibly linked to the wine produced around it,and Orvietan wine has been produced for at least 2,500 years.High quality production has gone beyond the prized “Bianco Classico”,to othe varieties like Chardonnay and Sauvignon Bianca as well as the highly praised red wines.

RESTAURANT LE GROTTE DEL FUNARO
I suggest you to eat at Restaurant Le Grotte del Funaro.

The restaurant consists in a medieval grotto where once ropes where made.
In summer guests can also eat outside, and enjoy the beauty of the landscape down below.
There's a cistern and two shafts with footholds dating to Etruscan times: the concrete and fascinating evidence of the origins of these grottoes.
The original tools used to make ropes can still be seen inside the Restaurant.

Truffles, porcino mushrooms, game, certified Chianina beef are at the basis of Alfredo’s cuisine (the owner).Tradition renewed with unusual and harmonious combinations.
The varied menu also include fish and seafood,and pizza baked in a wood-burning oven.
A cuisine that combined creativity and tradition, quality products and excellent wines.

From the station you can reach the town by cable railway;
by taxi or bus and then by escalators or elevators

The Restaurant Le Grotte del Funaro is privileged to be located right in the historical center, very close to the main services that connect the Cliff to the large covered parking lot, formerly Campo della Fiera:
the elevators are only 10 meters away,the escalators 50 meters.
