Hi to everybody and happy 2013!
Today I would talk about the last winter holiday: the Ephipany.
The Epiphany is a Christian holiday that falls on January 6th, twelve days after Christmas. Its meaning from the Greek word epifaneia, is "manifestation", "appearance", "come", "divine presence" and the Christian tradition takes on the meaning of the first occurrence, the Magi and the world, humanity and divinity of Jesus Christ
But in the realty it was considered a popular and traditional phenomenon where the “Befana” is represented by a old, ugly but good woman
that bring any gifts for “good children” or carbon for “bad children” by sock.
Usually the night of 05th January every children hang it in the window or on the chimneypiece and as soon they wake up we run there to see what they can find out.
In italy this vacation is a way to attract people in the various squares. For example in Rome in the night between 5th and 6th January there is the meeting in Piazza Navona for traditional celebrations where you can see many stands and during the night the “Befana” will appear……!!!
In Venice there is another way to celebrate the Epiphany: the “Befana” arrives in gondola. Or better there are a lot of “Befane” that make a competition in gondola
I hope that you are enjoined about this article and next year if you want you could see with your eyes the “Befana”
