Today I would like to introduce You the beautiful Ponza Island
Ponza is the major island of the Pontine Islands archipelago (the archipelago includes the islands of Gavi, Zannone, Palmarola, Ventotene and Santo Stefano) located in the Gulf of Gaeta in the province of Latina, Lazio.


The island has an area of ​​7.5 km ² and its beaches are mostly rocky and jagged, surrounded by many extinct volcanic craters, thus proving its volcanic origins. The vegetation is typically Mediterranean with a prevalence of agaves, prickly pears and brooms.. The sunset is really magic there....



All around the island coasts underwater caves and cliffs can be found: these natural beauties annually attract thousands of divers and swimmers! Beautiful and relaxing beaches are also treasure of the island like the famous beach of Chiaia di Luna ( in the south-west), surrounded by high cliffs overlooking the sea.



Ponza has also many attractions belonging to the past: ruins of Roman villas, the most famous of which is located on the Hill of the Madonna and dates back to the first century AD, as well as an aqueduct, baths (including the famous Grotte di Pilato) and a cistern for collecting water rainwater.
The island has a lot to offer to its visitors, If You have the chance to stop by for 1-2 days please don't miss to discover the following places:



The caves of Pilate- this is a complex of caves in the Roman era, excavated at sea level. It consists of large caves connected with the sea and between them by tunnels, dug into the bedrock just south-east of the port.
The stacks of the Virgin Mary- named after the small chapel of "Madonna of Salvation" carved into the rock in the current cemetery area.



Chiaia di Luna beach - built by the Romans as a port of refuge called "Diva Moon". The cliffs reach 100 feet in height. The name of Chiaia di Luna is due to the shape of the beach which reminds the moon with its curvature and the white rock at the end.


The so called "CALE", the amazing bays of the island - Cala del Core, Cala Felce, Cala Gaetano..... all around the coast more than 10 wonderful bays wait You, some of them can be reached by feet some only by boat.


Port of Ponza and Frontone Beach - the first places to get to, after drop off the ferries.
Curious about how to easily reach Ponza? no problem, beacuse many companies provide ferry boats and hydrofoils to bring You to Ponza!



During summer season Hydrofoils from Anzio (south of Rome) connetc 3-5 times a day the island with mainland: journey takes about 1h15minutes, while if You need to reach the island from Naples journey will be a little longer (about 2h30minutes).
