Dear all!
As you know, this is Carnival period, famous especially in
VENICE&VIAREGGIO.
But today I will inform you about Carnival in south of Italy (PUGLIA), which is less famous but for sure AMAZING and much cheaper!
This year starts from the 23rd of February to the 4th of March.
During this period every Sunday along the main street of each city, you can see a parade of BIG PAPIER-MACHER PUPPETS, with dressed people inside who dance and throw away candies or coloured papiers.
One of the most famous cities for this puppets is GALLIPOLI (LECCE)
At the same time, some churches and some schools organize with children a masked parade.
They choose a theme (for example: Alice in Wonderland story, so you can see some children dressed by Alice, by cart, by rabbit or clocks). Sometimes politics theme.
The best mask and the best puppet, win a cup. The last day, who is on Tuesday (this year the 4th of March), there is the Carnival Award day).
A Jude with some jouralist, choose the winner of each edition of the year.
If you already visit Venice & Viareggio Carnival and are looking for a different one, don't forget to come to Puglia!
