Hello Dear Readers!
Do you remember my post about 真実の口 - BOCCA DELLA VERITà ?
( If you want to read it please click: http://ameblo.jp/his-rome/entry-11354969379.html ).
When I went there I took the occasion to visit two interesting basilicas of Rome: The Basilica of Santa Maria in Cosmedin and the the minor basilica San Giorgio in Velabro.
If you plan to visit 真実の口 please take a look at The Basilica of Santa Maria in Cosmedin. In fact the 真実の口 is located next to the entrance of the Basilica. This simple yet beautifull basilica dates back to the 8th century.
Inside, You will see the beautiful marble decorations of the floor: little pieces of marble disposed geometrically creating patterns of different colors and shapes.
The main materials used to build this Basilica were wood, marble and stone: once you enter inside you really get the feeling of travelling the past.
There are also two treasures: one is a precious 8th-century mosaic fragment wich represents the epifany and was formerly locate in St. Peter Basilica, the other-one is the relic of St. Valentine.
Very close to Santa Maria in Cosmedin and 真実の口, more or less 5 minute by feet, there is another interesting minor Basilica of Rome: San Giorgio in Velabro.
This Basilica was originally built during the 6th century, but then restored many times during the ages. It has a particular asymmetric form: when you enter inside it You will notice that the enterance wall is wider than the wall at the back.
It takes few minutes to visit this church but it may be a chance to see a less know and less turistic place of Rome.
Well that's all for today, I hope you have enjoyed this little stroll around the 真実の口!
See you next post
