Good morning dear readers! Last week I visited a small town in the south of Rome, located about 30 kilometers far from the capital of Italy.
You can easily get there by train in 30minutes, departing from Rome Termini central station and taking the Velletri line train.
This city is very ancient and full of interesting spots to be photographed or just to be seen.
According to the legends LANUVIO dates back to the 9th century B.C., that is why there you can find many ruins and archaelogical finds related to roman pagan cult.
For example, in the acropolis of the city there is an ancient temple devoted to Juno Sospita Deity (Protectress of the city, "Favorable Juno" was one of the most important feminine God in the roman mythology) still under excavation: every year many jars, small statues and beautifull ornaments are discovered and then shown at the Municipal Museum.
Beside roman ancient ruins, Lanuvio is also know for its Medieval center which gives a peculiar athmosphere to the modern city, You can really sense three eras here!
When You arrive in the city You notice immediately the ancient city walls and the Towers of Medieval Age (X century). And if You like to enjoy typical roman dishes and D.O.C. wine, You should visit Lanuvio because it is renowned for it's typical gourmet products, as well for it's Grape & Wine festival of late September.
Also, If you have some spare time, I suggest you to go to the Medieval Tower because a surprise waits you inside: there you can see the most famous wines of the area and take a look at the traditional tools of the rural life,
Now let's go back to the main square and let's go the park of the city where it is located the Archaelogical site whom I talked before.
Unfortunately when I went there not all the site were accessible due to the excavations, but they will re opened soon so please came and take a look at this ancient and beautiful city.
Dear readers that's all for today, I hope you enjoyed discovering Lanuvio!
See you next post,
Granny
