This ice cream empire was founded by Giacomo Fassi, who opened a small ice and beer beer kiosk at the end of the Nineteenth Century in via delle Quattro Fontane, very close to Barberini Square in Rome. He marked the beginning of five generations of ice cream-making history.


Giacomo’s son Giovanni took over the family business. He was known as the “king’s ice cream maker” because he worked at "Casa Reale" (the Residence of the Royal House of Savoy).

He moved to Piazza Navona and then to via Piave (1907-1927) where he managed his business successfully. His hard work paid off and in 1928 he moved to via Principe Eugenio. He spent over one million old lire – a fortune at the time – to found Palazzo del Freddo, the only Fassi store. Whose total area is seven hundreds square metres (two hundreds of them used for the ice cream production). The magnificence of the store was such that, during World War II, the American Red Cross took over the activity for two years, in order to produce ice cream for American troops.

In 1961 Leonida took over the family business from his father. He had gained considerable experience and kept the reputation of the family business high. For over ten years Leonida was the vice-president of the Italian Federation of Public Businesses. His own business stood out for the quality and fairness with which customers were treated.
Palazzo del Freddo is now managed by Leonida’s children.

In accordance with food hygiene provisions - as only pasteurized eggs are used chick - but also thanks to the use of high standards ingredients, ice cream is an hygienically safe product. We don't know exactly when ice cream was born; we only know that, around 500 BC, the Chinese discovered how to store winter ice in order to use it during the summer. It has been said that the inventors of ice cream were Italian, who spreaded it all around Europe.

Classic Sanpietrino, with a chocolate icing and a heart of cream, zabaglione, chocolate, coffee, coconut, hazelnuts. Sanpietrino Colors, with strawberry or pistachio icing and a creamy heart. Sanpietrino Colors is also available with white chocolate icing and a heart of berries.

Sanpietrino:

Ispiration to create this tasty handicraft semifreddo came from the square stones of the unusual paving decorations on the roads of the historic centre of Rome.
Sanpietrino is suitable for all seasonssunrain, since it's like an ice cream in summertime, while it can replace baked sweets on winter.

Promotion

From November to February:
- on Wednesday, prices of ice cream cones and cups reduced by 50%
- on Thursday, prices of loose ice cream reduced by 50%
- on Friday, 8 and 10 pieces (cassata, tronchetto, caterinetta, tartufo, tiramisù) packs: 7.00 EUR instead of 11.00 EUR.

Telegelato

(tele = at a distance, gelato = ice-cream) Dry ice is used to package ice cream in order to guarantee its preservation out of the freezer for a certain number of hours. The first one is free.
