Good Morning Everyone!
First of all I would like to wish You all an Happy New Year!
Today I would like to talk You about Palazzo Massimo マッシモ宮, one of the four interesting museums of Rome included in the National Roman Museum group (Palazzo Massimo, Palazzo Altemps, Crypta Balbi, Baths of Diocletian).
Palazzo Massimo is very easy to reach as it is located at less than 1 minute walking distance from Termini Central Station, exactly in front of Bath of Diocletian complex, also very close to Repubblica Square.
The Palazzo Massimo museum is a four floor building that houses a worldwide famous and huge collection of classical art. The collection consists of beautiful statues, mosaics, mural paintings, frescoes, medals and coins.
Through these pieces of art, belonging to different periods and dating back even to the Republican age, You can discover aspects of life, habits, hobbies and tastes of the inhabitants of Rome in the anchient past. The whole museum has as a “base concept” the aim to let visitors discover, through its masterpieces, who really were the Romans of the past.
On the ground and first floor of the museum some of the statues will catch Your attention for their beauty and the feeling of life they convey: as an example I suggest You to take a look at the famous greek statue discovered in Rome, called the Boxer , or at masterpieces like the Discus Thrower, at the Maiden of Anzio and the Sleeping Hermaphrodite.
Also please do not miss the lordly statue of emperor Augustus....
Or the magnificent examples of sarcophagi, with their relief telling wonderful battle scene or daily life episodes.
The museum has also an underground floor in the basement, where You will find a wide numismatic collection with medals and coins, as well as furnishings and jewelry from Late Republic Roman era till Middle Age discovered pieces.
You can visit Palazzo Massimo and the other museums of NATIONAL MUSEUM OF ROMAN (Palazzo Massimo, Palazzo Altemps, Crypta Balbi, Baths of Diocletian) with just one ticket, which allows You to visit four museums and it is valid for 3 days for € 7.00, or 10€ if an ongoing exhibition is held in the museums.
