Bressanone Christmas market is one of the most famous and charming places of the South Tyrol.The Christmas Market is set up in Piazza Duomo,close to S.Michele Church.
All around the market,there's the splendid cathedral and old buildings.
There are 35 stands and each of it sells typical and handcrafted products of the region:cribs made in laborious manual labor, carved wooden figures and sculptures, candles, glass and ceramic manufactures,Christmas nativity scenes,typical Tyrol aprons and tablecloths,Christmas objects and decorations.
You can find lots of pretty ideas for your Christmas gifts!
You can find also different kind of tea,sweets,chocolates and cakes
Visitors are met by a colourful world of tempting scents and unique flavours.
Some stands are set up like bars and sell typical "vin brulé",hot tea,hot chocolate,Salzbrezeln with Speck and Strauben.
I'd like to explain you these typical specialities of South Tyrol:
Vin Brulé (mulled wine):
it's a typical red hot wine cooked with sugar and spices like cinnamon,orange,lemon,nutmeg,cloves and star anives
It's a pleasure to drink it during winter times!
Strauben:
it's a typical sweet friedcake of South Tyrol,Bayern and Austria made of flour,eggs,sugar,milk,butter and grappa(grape spirit).
We use to sprinkle confectioners' sugar on it and we eat with red blueberries jam or cream.
Salzbrezeln:
it's a sort of bread with salt and you can taste it with speck,cheese,spicy brown mustards, melted butter.
The city also organize Christmas chors and concerts.
Usually the Christmas market is open during Christmas time: from the end of November till the beginning of January
from 10 AM to 7.00 PM (on 25th of December is closed).
Obviously,opening period and times can be changed year by year.
Bressanone is achievable very easily by train.
It's a wonderful city an during Christmas time is very magical!
A very charming and unique Christmas atmosphere!
