Dear All,today I will talk about one of the most famous museum in all over the world: Vatican Museums.
Vatican Museums are the museums of the Vatican City and they are located in Viale Vaticano in Rome.
The Museums contain masterpieces of painting, sculpture and other works of art collected by the popes through the centuries. They include several monumental works of art, such as the Sistine Chapel, the Chapel of Beato Angelico, the Raphael Rooms and Loggia and the Borgia Apartment.
Two of the greatest artists have contributed to the wonder of these museums:
Raphael and Michelangelo. To Michelangelo was commissioned to paint the Sistine Chapel, certainly the attraction that most of all will amaze you with The Last Judgment.
Immediately after the entry meets a beautiful terrace from where you can see the dome of St. Peter surrounded by green gardens.
Then, you arrive in the the terrace called the Cortile del Belvedere, and the separated upper terrace called the Cortile della Pigna after the Pigna, a large Roman bronze pinecone (originally part of a fountain), positioned in front of the niche.
In 1990, a sculpture of two concentric spheres by Arnaldo Pomodoro was placed in the middle of the upper courtyard.
Inside you will find the hallways and rooms with works of art in every corner, such as: Leonardo da Vinci, Caravaggio.
You will find also a very beautiful gallery, the Gallery of Maps, which is placed along the route leading to the Sistine Chapel and is an excellent representation of all the regions of of time and the main cities.
Before exiting the museum you have the chance to admire one of the world's most famous staircases.
Designed in 1932 by Giuseppe Momo, the staircase consists of a double helix, one leading up and one leading down. The beautiful bronze staircase is decorated with papal coats of arms.
