Dear bloggers,
it is Christmas! The Italian region of Friuli offers a beautiful Christmas scenery with bright colors and bright lights, in a landscape where the mountains are the masters.
A small fairytale town in the heart of the Friulian Dolomites, Andreis (in the province of Pordenone in the Friulian Dolomites Park), sets the stage for an event full of charm and simplicity, and become the "Land of Christmas trees".
Sixty Christmas trees decorated with original handmade ornaments and made of natural elements can be admired. They are handmade by small groups of locals, who adorn the village, from December 6 to January 6.
In the town square the traditional Christmas markets are set up, where visitors will find handmade items, as decorations and tree ornaments, toys, handmade clothing and typical culinary produce. On the background there are Christmas music, entertainment, games for children .
In Andreis, during the evening, many lights color the streets thanks to its trees that give a suggestive atmosphere to a background already charming and rich of history, nature and of an architecture that preserves the style of yesteryear.
The decorations are all handmade by small groups of locals, including women, children, teens, seniors, who, for months, have been working together and have transmitted to each other their knowledge and skills, learning the young from the elders and the elders from the young.
To prepare the decorations, they used all that the mountain could offers (wood, moss, pine cones, stones), waste and recycling material, or even wool, paper, scraps of cloth. In short they used poor raw materials, waste recovered in the house, that, with creativity and fun, have turned into unusual and imaginative decorations.
The fir trees are especially beautiful to see from dusk onwards, when, with their soft lights, illuminate a fascinating journey that makes all the visitors to discover the narrow streets, courtyards, and the spontaneous architecture of Andreis, made of stone and wood, preserved intact over the centuries .
At about the same period in Poffabro (Pordenone), a few kilometers away it is carried out “Poffabro, the crib between the cribs (Poffabro, presepe fra i presepi)”.
The town of the Christmas trees and the one in which there are represented nativity scenes are characteristic. The Friulian Dolomites devote these two charming and small towns, Poffabro and Andreis, which held the richest manifestations of charm and simplicity, to the two most popular and folk traditions of the Christmas holidays.
