Who like surf with only a couple of people in the water. Well I know the place. Read and I will show you where to go. Like going to any new breaks, where your not the local, you will stand out. Always remember when surfing in areas that are not familiar with new faces, there are rules you need to follow. One rule is to always respect the aina (land) and Makai (Ocean). Then you respect the native, Those that call it there home break. Dont worry, just be humble and respect the native, most of the time the will not bother you.The place I am trying to explain is in Ewa Beach, and the spots are called Empty Lots and Hau Bush. To get there you take the H-1 West towards waianae, take the Ewa Cut-off. Go staight till you cant go any further. When you get into Ewa Beach, you will come up to chevron gas station. Take a right after chevron and go straight. Go to the end. Dont worry this is an island, and the area does not look very nice but think of it as a surf safari. You know when you get there when you see a basaball field and a big parking lot.
The first picture is called Hau Bush. It is very family orientated. The wave is very sloppy, not so powerful. Perfect for longboarders. Shortboarders are always welcome. The paddle is 100 yards and it can be shallow depending on the tide. The best time is to go when it is going from high tide to low. The second picture shows what the wave looks like on an average day.
The last place is called Empty Lots. Continuing from the chevron gas station, you go straight. Follow the road straight till you see the tsunami warning center on the left. Park your car there, and look for the nearest public beach access. This place is my home break. It the inside it can be steep for the shortboarders, based on where the swell is coming from. The outside is sloopy like Hau Bush. This paddle is even farther than Hau Bush. It is also very shallow in the inside.
The best time to surf there is in the morning before the winds pick up. Just like all other beaches, there are enviromental issues you need to look out for. Our beach is located real close to Pearl Harbor so there is some pollution in the water. Just be careful and watch the news. Jellyfish, sharks turtles, and monk seals are some animals to look out for
If I dont see you out then have a great time and be careful.
